Has anyone had problems with ebay bidding in the last few seconds. Twice now I have bid on things that I have a bid on which should allow one click bidding. My bid in the last 10-15 seconds is not going through. Each time the winning bid is less than my bid. I contacted ebay and they said to increase my max bid or bid sooner. This will only up the selling price. Could this be the outcome ebay wants? Anyone see how the problem is my computer or my high speed internet connection?
If your last minute bid is not higher than the max amount entered by the current high bidder, he will get it for the listed bid.
For example, the current bid is $4 with a hidden max bid of $100. You bid $50 at 2 seconds. He gets it for $4.
Proxy bidding programs are the only way to fly. I use a pay service called Phantom Bidder, set at 4 seconds for the max I am willing gto pay. It only failed to get my bid in once in 7 years due to an ebay glitch.
As I posted previously there are a lot of bidders using a sniping program.The advantage of that is it only bids in the last few seconds of an auction and places the bid from multiple servers ensuring your bid gets through. I used to use Powerswnipe it is a very good software program.It costs like $45 a year.. But I stopped buying a lot of things on eBay as I really don't need or want anything else, but this is what is happening to you I'm sure...

The bidder with the 100 max should actually be on top with a bid of 50 PLUS whatever the bid increment is at that point. In the example bid shouldn't the winning bid be $51. The last time this happened my bid was $169,it sold for $153. Ebay said they have no record of my last bid

My understanding, which could be wrong or out-of-date, is that if your bid doesn't beat the current max bid, it is ignored and doesn't change anything.
Like I said, I just enter my max in Phantom Bidder @ 4 seconds and let it rip. If I win, I pay. If I lose, it is like it never happened.
I am not 100% sure about that, Bowtie. I have seen many cases where my last second bid was higher but did not move the current high bid.
I never looked up the rules, I just wing it.
Phantom Bidder is cool because you can buy "credits" and use them when you need them rather than paying a subscription ($9 a month, unlimited bids). Got a lot of good deals with lowball bids but definitely encourages you to go crazy, which for me is not that hard to do!

I started using Powersnipe after multiple instances of getting up in the middle of the night to sit all blurry eyed and half awake in front of the 'puter waiting for an auction to end only to wake up still sitting there a few minutes after it's ended having never placed my bid. That it(snipe program) allows you to spend money in your sleep is an incredible bonus.
Today i'm happy to report that i cannot remember the last time i bid on anything on ebay, an addiction cured.

I've used a snipping service for years (EZSnipe). When I got on ebay in '96, snipping wasn't common - but that didn't last long.
There have been times when I didn't understand how I got outbid at the last second, even complained to EZSnipe about it. But as has been said above, if someone put in a max bid of $101 two day ago, it still beats your $75 bid at the last second - the eBay proxy will trump your bid with his. It can be hard to see this the way eBay now lists bids. Sometimes you have to look at the details very closely.

Same here ! Since I have only bought a couple things in the past year I haven't needed it. But just a couple years ago I was getting a dozen emails a day from Powersnipe saying "Congratulations you have won ebay Auction" !Not 100% here either, that would require credibility for consistency on ebay's part. You have to remember that these auctions run for a set amount of time.If the server you are on is running slow that night your bid may not arrive until the auction has already ended.This is the advantage of having your bid placed from a half dozen locations guaranteeing your bids arrival on time.They bid in the last few seconds so it doesn't give anyone else a chance to counter your bid.
@Geekstar Powersnipe is a subscription for a whole year at $45.Which translates into $3.75 a month totally worth it if you need some gear (multiple items).Unlimited bids too!
There is one simple easy way to defeat the snipers.Put in your Max bid early and make sure it is big enough to outbid anyone.
We've all been there.I lost a few auctions in a row on stuff I really wanted and was told I have been sniped. I was so mad I bought the snipe program and have never looked back since then.But since now, I have more than I need, except for a few choice items if they ever appear and within reason. I'm pretty much done on eBay I think...
